okay, seriously...can we talk about the fact that i apparently live in tornado alley and didn't really realize it? well, we had a major storm here on friday...i am sure some of you have heard about it on the news, apparently it was on the national news because my grandmother was calling me about every five minutes to make sure i was okay!
i am okay, i was driving home from work when the storm hit. they were predicting storms here on friday afternoon, but they were not really predicting that it would be as severe as it was. we have a severe thunderstorm warning every other afternoon here, so its sort of become old hat to see that on the weather channel, but usually if it is going to be really bad the weathermen make a big deal about it and here at work they send us home early so we can be with our families. the past two really bad storms they closed downtown at 10 am so people could have time to pick their kids up from school and get home before the storms hit...we had no warning this time. i left at my usual time and as i was walking to my parking garage, the wind was blowing and the sky above me was turning black...i am not exaggerating...it was black! i got in my car and my the time i was on my way home the storm was in full force. i am telling you, i do not enjoy the 100 mph winds and horizontal rain hitting my poor little hyundai. i love my car, but it is not exactly a heavy car and i was praying the whole time that the wind would not just come and pick my car up altogether. anyway, people were pulled off the road and you the wind was blowing down trees and light posts...it was scary! then, my best friend calls me from her work to tell me that she just saw a tornado outside her work and they were all huddled in the hallway hoping it did not hit the building. okay so here i am on the phone listening to a tornado and driving through the storm...yeah....not a good moment for natalie. her work was spared and she was okay, although there was a lot of damage to the area with trees and powerlines down. i was almost home when i saw the funnel cloud above the shopping center about a block from my apartment. it is exactly how you see it in the movies...all of the sudden the clouds started to swirl and a funnel drops down from the sky...that particular funnel did not touch down and was gone as quick as it formed, but nonetheless, i am over the spring storms! anyway, my complex was out of power for most of the day and we some trees down through the fence and a flag pole that was split in half from the storm, but otherwise unharmed. seriously....it needs to be MAY 13th!!!!
i miss and love you guys....i cannot wait to see you and be home!
three weeks from today i will be waking up in the great state of north carolina!!!! i am so excited....i am literally counting down the days. every morning i wake up and tell myself that i only have a few weeks left and then i am back home!! today i woke up and realized in 20 more days i will be home!! HALLELUJAH!!! i am in the midst of finals week and i am not a happy person, so you are all probably very glad i am here and not there. i have a paper due tonite, a simulation due tomorrow, a take home due on monday, a leadership paper due on thursday and my internship paper due on friday!! ugh!!! and since i am coming to orange, all of this has to be done by sunday!! i am sort of freaking out, but i know it will all get done because it always does.
OH and have i mentioned that i still have not started packing? no...well, i have not started packing yet and all of that has to be done before all my people come for graduation/moving week. yeah...its pretty crazy here right now, but i know it will all get done...i am just feeling a little frazzled right now.
i am still unemployed at the moment, but i do have resumes out there so hopefully i will get a hit soon! if you hear of anything, as always, let me know. i know that a job will come, but its unnerving to know that my last day at work here is in two weeks and i move in three and still no income....i might be moving from house to house in nc for dinner!!
hopefully there will not be anymore storms here before i leave, although i am not counting on it given our average daily temperature is 88 with a thousand percent humidity!! it sure does get hot quick here!!
and finally....YAY for the dickeys coming home with sweet little landon!!! i am so excited to meet her and see the dickey clan for the first time since october!
anyway, i just wanted to let everyone know that yes, i am still alive, just very much busy with school and work and moving!
